WELCOME TO OUR SEWING LESSONS 

We want your sewing experience at Tracey's Sewing Room to leave you inspired with your newly found skills and experience to want to do more.  Being creative is a wonderful way to relax and take your mind of everything else.  Our lessons are designed to make you feel at ease as you grow your sewing skills no matter what level you are at when you begin. Our group lessons are small so that you get the individualised attention from our trainers.  There is also the option of requesting private lessons if you would prefer - click on the link or visit us at our shop for more information.

Roman Blinds Masterclass

You will learn everything you need to know to make a beautiful hand made roman blind. This blind will be interlined and lined with machine stitched rod pockets. What You Will Learn

 

Over the two weeks that this workshop runs we will take you through all the steps from start to finish for making your blind that include:

 

  • How to measure  a window  accurately for the blind;

  • How to calculate fabric and lining quantity;

  • Learn about fabric  pattern repeats;

  • How to pattern match;

  • How to calculate your rod pocket positions;

  • How to put your blind together which is mostly handstitched;

  • How to finish your blind header with velcro;

  • How to insert your rods and sew on the rings; and

  • How to string and hang your blind.

This is a lot of ground that we will be covering, but each step is described in great detail, and written notes are supplied.​

​

What You Need to Bring Along

​

This masterclass includes a kit as part of the cost of the course so there is nothing you need to bring along.

Curtain Making

Curtain-making Masterclass

Level: advanced

Duration: two 4-hour workshops over two consecutive days

Price: £200.00

You will learn how to make beautiful handmade interlined and lined curtains. Learn all the tricks of the trade, how to measure, pattern match, cut and make curtains like a professional. What You Will Learn

  • How to measure a window accurately for the curtain;

  • How to calculate fabric, lining and interlining quantities;

  • Learn about fabric pattern repeats;

  • How to use buckram for the header and make the pleats; and

  • How to hem your curtain.

Cushions

Cushion-making Masterclass

Level: advanced

Duration: 4-hour workshop

Price: £70.00

During this four hour workshop we will take you through all the steps for making a professionally finished cushion and includes the following:

 

  • Preparing the pattern pieces for your cushion cover;

  • How to make your own piping;

  • Using a zip foot on your sewing machine for the piping;

  • How to sew the piping to your cushion cover;

  • Adding the zip to your cushion cover; and

  • Finishing your seams.

​What You Need to Bring Along

​

All sewing machines, overlockers, tools and accessories are provided. You will need to bring your own choice of fabric and some haberdashery.  Suitable fabrics that you can use include light-weight curtain / upholstery fabric, linen, corduroy, cotton drill and light-weight canvas.

​

You will need 60 cm of fabric of your choice for the cushion, an extra 60 cm of contrast fabric for the piping, a 50 cm regular zip, a cushion pad that is 50 cm x 50 cm and 2 m of piping cord.

​

If you come to the shop before the workshop we can help you find what you need.  Alternatively you can purchase online using the Fabric and Haberdashery links provided below. We also sell piped cushion kits specifically for this lesson at Tracey's Sewing Room for £15. Please note that the lesson does not include time for choosing and purchasing fabric and haberdashery. This must be done before the class starts.

Over the two weeks you will continue to expand your sewing skills by working with a kiddies pattern. In this lesson your learnings will include the following:

 

  • Learn to read the pattern instructions step by step;

  • Trace and cut out your selected size;

  • Learn about grainlines and naps;

  • Make your own bias binding;

  • Sew a peter pan collar;

  • Make gathered sleeves;

  • Make a gathered skirt; and

  • Insert a zip.

​

This class will give you the confidence you need to tackle other kiddies projects like the Kiddies Pyjamas.​

​

What You Need to Bring Along

​

All sewing machines, overlockers, tools and accessories are provided. You will need to bring your own choice of fabric for your outfit.  Suitable fabrics that you can use include 100% cotton, cotton chambray, embroidery anglaise, gingham and light-weight linen / cotton blend. No stretch fabrics for this workshop.

​

When we receive your booking request form, we will call you to establish how much fabric you will need to bring along. You will also need a 35 cm zip, plus some ribbon and trims depending on your design.

  • Working with smaller pattern and garment pieces;

  • Using the overlocker to sew your garment together;

  • Sew an elastic casing for the pyjama pants;

  • Applique a teddy face to the pyjama top; and

  • Sew a band around the neck edge.

​

This class will give you the confidence you need to tackle other kiddies projects like the Kiddies Dress.​

​

What You Need to Bring Along

​

All sewing machines, overlockers, tools and accessories are provided. You will need to bring your own choice of fabric for your outfit.  Suitable fabrics you can use include cotton jersey, interlock and single jersey knits.

​

When we receive your booking request form, we will call you to establish how much fabric you will need to bring along. You will also need a 50 cm length of 2 cm wide elastic, and some iron-on vilene interfacing.
