Tracey’s Sewing Room Turns Two!

Two years ago, in April 2023, I opened the doors to Tracey’s Sewing Room at No. 1 North Street, Dorking—with a heart full of hope, a shop full of fabric, and a dream to create something special. Today, I’m pinching myself that we’re not only still here, but thriving, growing, and stitching a community together—one thread at a time.

It’s hard to put into words just how much has happened over the past 24 months. From our very first beginner sewing class to the buzzing hive of creativity we now have in the shop and studio, the journey has been both humbling and exhilarating. I’d love to share a few of the moments that have made me especially proud.

Sewing Confidence, One Stitch at a Time

Since we opened, over 100 students have joined our course. That means over 100 pin cushions, cushion covers, placemats, and pairs of shorts made—and countless stitches, laughs, and lightbulb moments along the way. For many of you, those classes were just the beginning of your sewing adventure, and it’s been a joy to watch your confidence and creativity bloom.

The Magic of Sew & Tell

One of the most heartwarming additions to our calendar has been our twice-monthly Sew & Tell evenings. These are nights full of inspiration, connection, and, of course, sewing! Whether you come for guidance, a second opinion, or simply a cosy space to stitch among friends, Sew & Tell has become a real highlight of the shop’s rhythm. It’s always a thrill to see the amazing projects you bring through our doors.

Empowering Young Makers

Last year we completed our very first Duke of Edinburgh project with a fabulous group of teenagers. They learned beginner techniques while upcycling old jeans into brilliant beach bags—ticking off their ‘Learn a New Skill’ requirement with style, sustainability, and a whole lot of personality. Their enthusiasm and creativity gave me so much hope for the next generation of makers.

Expanding Our Horizons

Our little shop has grown in more ways than one. We’ve expanded our fabric range, stocked up on beautiful haberdashery, and introduced brand new workshops. From monthly quilting sessions to pop-up classes like the padded jacket, hand-printed fabric, and our button-up blouse course, we’re always dreaming up new ways to spark your imagination.

But above all, what fills me with pride is the community that’s blossomed here. The shop is more than a place to buy fabric or take a class—it’s become a gathering place, a creative hub, and a warm, welcoming space where ideas and friendships are stitched together daily.

Come Celebrate With Us!

To mark our second birthday, we’d love for you to join us on Wednesday, 17th April for a slice of cake, a chat, and a celebration of everything we’ve built together. If you’ve made something in one of our classes—wear it, bring it, show it off! We want to see your creations and hear your stories.

Thank you for supporting Tracey’s Sewing Room—whether you’ve popped in for a reel of thread, spent hours learning to sew, or cheered us on from afar. Here’s to the next chapter... and many more stitches to come.

With love and gratitude,

Tracey x
